Privacy Policy

Last updated: 20 August 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how DataScoutApp ("DataScout", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects your information when you use the DataScout mobile application (the "App") and the related services available at datascoutapp.com (together, the "Service").

DataScout is a tool for hunters and outdoor enthusiasts to organize trail-camera photos and videos and to surface insights such as weather and moon conditions for each capture. By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Who we are (Data Controller)

The Service is operated by DataScoutApp, based in the United States. For any privacy questions or requests, contact us at privacy@datascoutapp.com.

2. Information we collect

We collect only the information needed to operate the Service. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

2.1 Information you provide

2.2 Information derived from your media

To provide the App's core features, we read information that is embedded in or visible within the photos and videos you choose to import:

The App does not request access to your device's live location, and on Android it does not request camera or storage permissions — media is imported through your operating system's photo picker, which lets you choose exactly which items to share.

2.3 Device and session information

When you sign in, we record information about the device so you can view and revoke your active sessions:

2.4 Technical and diagnostic information

3. How we use your information

4. How your information is shared

We share information only with the service providers that help us run the Service, and only as needed for them to perform their function. We do not sell personal data. When the App fetches weather data, your photo's coordinates and capture date are sent to the relevant provider for that lookup.

Provider Purpose Data shared
Supabase Cloud storage of your media files and hosting of our application database Your photos/videos, account records, and synced content
WeatherStack Historical weather lookups for a photo's location and date Coordinates and date (no account identifiers)
Mailgun Sending transactional emails (verification, password reset) Your email address, your username, and a time-limited verification or reset link
GlitchTip (Sentry) Crash and error diagnostics Diagnostic/crash data, device and app/OS version
RevenueCat Managing and validating your DataScout Elite subscription purchase An account identifier, your purchase/subscription status, and device/app information

We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of DataScout, our users, or others. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred, and we will notify you of any change in ownership or use of your personal information.

5. Data storage and international transfers

Your data is stored on servers operated by us and by our hosting providers. Because our providers may operate in the United States and other countries, your information may be processed in a country different from where you live. We take steps to ensure your information remains protected in accordance with this policy wherever it is processed.

6. Data retention

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active. Diagnostic and crash data is retained for a limited period for debugging purposes. When you delete your account, we delete or irreversibly anonymize your personal data and content within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain information to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can exercise these rights as follows:

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal bases for processing are the performance of our contract with you (to provide the Service), your consent (where applicable), and our legitimate interests in securing and improving the Service. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Account and data deletion

You can request deletion of your account and personal data at any time. Full instructions are on our Delete Your Account page. In short:

Upon deletion, your account credentials, synced records, and stored media are removed from our systems and from our cloud storage provider within 30 days, subject to the legal exceptions noted in the Data Retention section.

9. Security

We protect your information using industry-standard measures, including encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS), hashing of passwords and authentication tokens, access controls, and short-lived signed URLs for media transfers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and continuously improve our safeguards.

10. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@datascoutapp.com and we will delete it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you through the App or by email. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
